Miyar Taushe (Pumpkin Stew)

Try this yummy Miyar Taushe recipe. It is normally eaten with Tuwon Shinkafa but you can pair with eba or pounded yam if you wish.

In this recipe,I used cow leg instead brisket bone which is often used in the traditional recipe.

Here’s the recipe:


  • 1 Cow Leg cut into pieces
  • ½ kg Beef cubed
  • 4 cups of Pumpkin cubed
  • 5 cups of Tomato & Pepper blended
  • 1 large Onion sliced
  • 1 cooking spoon of Palm Oil
  • 3 cooking spoons of Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Ground ginger (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of ground Daddawa
  • 3 tablespoons ground Groundnut
  • 4 maggi seasoning cubes
  • 1 small bunch Spinach sliced
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Instructions

  • Put cow leg in a large pot. Cover with water, add salt to taste and cook till done.
  • In another pot, add beef, Maggi cubes, salt, and boil until almost done, then add pumpkins and cook till soft.
  • Boil blended tomato until thick.
  • Heat palm oil and vegetable oil in a pot, add onions, and fry for 1 minute. Pour in tomatoes and fry. Add ground ginger and daddawa.
  • Pour in cooked cow leg and beef, with pumpkins. Add seasoning cubes.
  • Stir well and allow to boil, breaking pumpkins with spoon.
  • Add ground groundnuts. Cover pot and cook until thick.
  • Add spinach
  • Adjust seasoning, and serve with tuwon shinkafa.
